Join Shocker Career Accelerator (SCA) for an open house at its office from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today, Sept. 21, at 162 John Bardo Center. This is a come-and-go event for students, faculty and staff to view the SCA office and learn about the services the staff provides. Light refreshments and the SCA team will be available for meet and greets during the event.

The Shocker Learning Center is having its annual Fall Open House 11 a..m.-1 p.m. today, Sept. 21 at 107 Lindquist Hall Room.

Come visit us to learn about the services the center offers, including tutoring, supplemental instruction, study space, Thursday study hall and peer mentoring.

The event will also feature goodies and giveaways as long as supplies last. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to stop by.

President Rick Muma will host three town halls at three separate times today, Sept. 21, via Zoom. The times and groups include the following:

  • W. Frank Barton School of Business — 1-2 p.m.
  • Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences — 2-3 p.m.
  • Dorothy and Bill Cohen Honors College — 3-4 p.m.

In celebration of Good Neighbor Week and Latinx Heritage Month, Shocker Under the Stars will feature a screening of “Encanto” beginning at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Duerksen Fine Arts Center Amphitheater. The event will also feature a variety of vendors, food trucks and a preview of a short film from Mama.Film.

The Staff Senate has once again challenged Faculty Senate to a friendly contest to Stock the Shocker Support Locker now until Oct. 14. Collection sites will be at the following locations:

  • Morrison Hall Post Office/Central Services
  • Shocker Career Accelerator (162 John Bardo Center)
  • Rhatigan Student Center
  • Duerksen Fine Arts Center east lobby entrance

  • Ablah Library circulation desk
  • Business Student Success Center (129 Woolsey Hall)

All staff and faculty are invited to participate in this important effort to ensure Wichita State students and colleagues have a full pantry of food and supplies to choose from at the Shocker Support Locker. Member of the University Police Department are pitching in by helping pick up and drop off items.

To kick off Wichita State’s second annual Good Neighbor Week, the Office of Engagement and Shocker Neighborhood Coalition has partnered with 3 Keys Fitness, Wichita Habitat for Humanity, Facts Not Fear, and Atwater Resource Center to bring neighborhood businesses, organizations, student groups, and residents together for a three-mile neighborhood walk along the Redbud Trail beginning at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 25 beginning at the trailhead at 17th and Oliver.

Participants can park their vehicles at the John Bardo Center parking lot. Water will be provided. After the walk, a health literacy presentation discussing healthy habits will talk place and giveaways will be offered at John Bardo Center.

The event is part of First-Year Programs in Student Success’ Mentor Meetups, where students meet transition Mentors. Transition Mentors help students with any questions they have and can assist students in as they transition into their first semester of college. Free prizes will also be offered at the event.
