Wichita State’s Green Group is hosting a picnic at 3:30 p.m. today, Sept. 7 beginning at 203 Rhatigan Student Center (RSC). Once picnic supplies are gathered at 203 RSC, the group will head out to the community garden for the picnic. Stop by and learn more about student sustainability efforts on our campus.

Wichita State’s Math Circle resumes 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11 at 372 Jabara Hall. Math Circle is a program for middle school students. Math Circle Circle exists to keep young people interested in mathematics and let them explore and enjoy new topics. Children and grandchildren of faculty and staff grades 5-9 are invited to attend.

Students, faculty and staff are invited to learn all the steps to create a literature review during a workshop titled “Writing an Awesome Literature Review” at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 217 Ablah Library. The workshop will review everything from conducting comprehensive research to synthesizing perspectives to presenting your findings.

All participants must register to attend.

Students looking for on-campus work during the fall 2022 semester should visit Shocker Career Accelerator’s On-Campus Job Fair 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sept. 8 on the first floor of the Rhatigan Student Center.

The fair is open to all majors at Wichita State and is a great way to meet with staff from various departments across campus who have available student assistant, work-study and graduate assistant employment positions for the upcoming academic year.

The Shocker Career Accelerator will host an on-campus job fair from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, on the first floor of the Rhatigan Student Center. Please encourage students you interact with to attend the fair if they’re seeking an on-campus position.

Faculty can also use the event to advertise their student hire positions. To do this, register at the link below. Registration will close at 3 p.m. on Sept. 7.

Wichita State University will partner with Sedgwick County, the City of Wichita and the Wichita Journalism Collaborative to host a free Suspenders4Hope Preventing Suicide Training from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Advanced Learning Library located in downtown Wichita.

This event is free and open to the public, but the training is geared toward community leaders and media influencers. Sedgwick County Commissioner Sarah Lopez, City Councilwoman Maggie Ballard and Ascension Via Christi President Robyn Chadwick will speak during the event. 

The goal of this Suspenders4Hope event is to unify messaging around solution-focused journalism, elevating the message of hope and resiliency when it comes to the topic of mental health and suicide. The training reminds participants that we all have a story to tell. It also teaches about the importance of vulnerability in inspiring others to get help and reduce the stigma of getting help. 

Registration is encouraged but not required. Free pizza and Suspenders4Hope T-shirts will be available to the first 100 members registered.

Join other first-generation students at the First Generation Student Organization (FGSO) first fall 2022 meeting 1-2p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8 at 262 Rhatigan Student Center.

A first-gen student is a term that is used to refer to students who are the first in their families to attend college. FGSO was formed as a platform for first-gen students to meet and share experiences and advocate for their needs on campus.

KVersity, a campus K-pop and hip-hop dance group, will host its first active social of the fall 2022 semester 3-4 p.m. today, Sept. 9. During the event, participants can meet and interact with KVersity members and will be introduced to other newcomers in the organization. Games and a random play dance crafted by our own KV exec board will also be featured during the event.

Wichita State employees who reached a service milestone between the dates of Sept. 2, 2021, and Sept. 1, 2022, will be honored at events hosted by the university in October at the Rhatigan Student Center Beggs Ballroom. The 2022 honorees can expect to receive their invitation to arrive later in September.

The event for honorees celebrating milestones of 5-20 years of service with the State of Kansas will be held 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. This event is open to all employees to attend and celebrate with their colleagues who are honorees.

The event for honorees celebrating milestones of 25-55 years of service with the State of Kansas, called Bender of Twigs (25 years dedicated to Wichita State), and those having retired from the university will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.). This is an invitation-only dinner event for honorees and a guest.
