The Office of Diversity and Inclusion is proud to present the Diversity Lecture Series, which features distinguished leaders and experts to inspire campus dialogue, community engagement, and education about the national narrative on diversity and inclusion. An upcoming lecture will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25 in Rhatigan Student Center, room 301.

This lecture will feature keynote speaker Alfredo Corchado, an award-winning journalist, who will share his stories from the press and expertise on immigration, drug violence and foreign policy between the United States and Mexico.

The Diversity Lecture Series is free and open to the public. Registration is required to attend.

The English Department is hosting its first-ever Halloween movie night at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 in 218 Hubbard Hall. Come (if you dare!) to this free event for a screening of the cult classic “The House on Haunted Hill” from 1959. Drinks and snacks will be provided.

The Center for International Business Advancement (CIBA), the World Trade Council of Wichita (WTCouncil) and the International Business Studies Association (IBSA) invite you to a dinner program on “The China-Taiwan Situation: What Should We Know and What Can We Do About It.”

The program begins at 6 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Wichita Marriott Hotel, 9100 Corporate Hills Drive.

Reservations are required and can be made by clicking the button below. The social hour, three-course dinner and presentation cost $45 for individuals; and, $25 for WSU students with an ID card. Seating-only reservations (without the dinner and social hour) are free.

The panel features Usha Haley, chair of the WTCouncil, W. Frank Barton Distinguished Chair in International Business, and professor of management; Geoff Tuff, principal-strategy for Deloitte Consulting in Boston; and Jack Zhang, assistant professor of political science at the University of Kansas.

SAC presents Murder Mystery Dinner, "Bullets in the Bathtub". Registration rates are: $8 for students, $15 for faculty, $20 for general public. Registration closes October 16th.

Join SAC at 6 p.m. Oct. 29 in the RSC’s Beggs Ballroom to solve a mob murder.

“Bullets In the Bathtub” is a 1920s themed three-course dinner featuring Jest Murder Mystery actors. Dress in your best flapper and mob attire to help solve the murder.

Registration costs $8 for students, $15 for faculty/staff and $20 for the general public. Registration closes Oct. 16. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. on the evening of the event.

Service Recognition 2022

Wichita State University employees who reached a service milestone between the dates of Sept. 2, 2021, and Sept. 1, 2022, will be honored at events hosted by the university in October at the Rhatigan Student Center’s Beggs Ballroom. The 2022 Honorees received their invitation in early October. 

The event for honorees celebrating milestones of five to 20 years of service with the State of Kansas will be held 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26 in the RSC Beggs Ballroom (doors will open at 1:30 p.m.).  This event is open to all employees to attend and celebrate with their colleagues who are honorees.  If you would like to attend the celebration, please RSVP as an honoree or non-honoree university attendee by Friday, Oct. 14.

The event for honorees celebrating milestones of 25-55 years of service with the State of Kansas, Bender of Twigs (25 years dedicated to Wichita State) and those having retired from the university will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 in the RSC Beggs Ballroom (doors will open at 5:30 p.m.). This is an invitation-only dinner event for honorees and a guest.

A recital in celebration of life for Dr. Walter Mays. Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 3 PM in Wiedemann Hall.

Join the Wichita State University community for a celebration of life for Dr. Walter Mays, distinguished professor in the School of Music, who passed away on July 11. The recital will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 in Wiedemann Hall.

Friends, colleagues, students and family will perform several of May’s original compositions. The event will be live-streamed via the School of Music’s Facebook page.

Student Success First Year Programs. Craft and movie. Mentor Meetup. October 12 at 5-7 PM. Heskett Center Lobby.

The Office of First-Year Programs in Student Success invites students to a Crafts & Movie night 5-7 p.m. today, Oct. 12, at the Heskett Center Lobby. For the event, students can wear their pajamas or comfy clothes while enjoying free snacks and a giveaway. This event is free to attend.

The event is part of First-Year Programs in Student Success’ Mentor Meetups, where students meet transition mentors. Transition mentors help students with any questions they have and can assist students as they transition into their first semester of college.

Organizations or departments that want to be placed on the official Shocktoberfest schedule, should fill out the form below. Shocktoberfest 2022 will take place Oct. 20-29.

Registration is now open for student organizations that want to compete in the 2022 Shocktoberfest Octo. 20-29. To qualify, a minimum of five active members of a registered student organization are required to participate.

Since 1991, Shocktoberfest has been Wichita State’s annual fall celebration of Shocker Spirit and Pride. This multi-day series features events, activities and competitions coordinated by the Office of Student Engagement, Advocacy & Leadership, with support from the Student Activities Council and several campus partners.

For 2022, competing student organizations will collect points by attending and participating in specific events throughout the week for their chance to win the Shocktoberfest Trophy and cash prizes.
