Interested in obtaining a Master of Arts degree in English but need to take classes at your own pace? The Department of English now offers the MA degree both in-person and online.

Our 30-credit hour program offers a flexible course of study designed to meet the professional goals of our students. All our courses, both in-person and online, are taught by regular WSU faculty. Our curriculum includes classes in British and American literature, major authors, the genres of drama, poetry, and fiction, image literacy in film and graphic novels, publishing, teaching practicums, digital humanities, professional, technical, and scientific writing, and linguistics.

The English Department is having an informational Zoom session about the new online degree from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2. Department chair, Dr. Fran Connor; graduate coordinator, Dr. Rebeccah Bechtold; and assistant director of the writing program, Dr. Carrie Dickison, will be there to answer questions.

Do you have students looking for a right fit graduate program? Wichita State’s Master of Social Work (MSW) program is accepting applications for the 2023-2024 school year. The program is open to all majors and has both full- and part-time schedule options.

The deadline to apply is January 13, 2023. Information about future virtual informational sessions will be available in future newsletters.

MSW students go on to work in mental health, forensics, health care, addiction treatment, aging, schools, international settings, child and family welfare, disaster relief, and a variety of other career fields. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for social work during the next decade is growing faster than average.

The Barton School of Business is offering a four-week online course, Doing Business in Asia (IB 690M) for graduate and advanced undergraduate credit beginning June 6. The class is also open to the community. No prerequisites are required.

This course is for anyone with an interest in developing awareness, skills, and resources to understand entering and succeeding in Asian markets and is taught by Dr. Usha Haley — W. Frank Barton distinguished chair in International Business and director of the Center for International Business Advancement. Haley is a recognized global expert on the subject and has lived and worked on five continents including Asia (in India, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia).

CRN 31045 is a hands-on elective course, we will examine what makes or breaks a great leader — not just in companies, but in life. This course includes travel to Chicago for a large, annual convention, as well as tours of local businesses and organizations with leadership. Course timeline:
