The Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Spectrum: LGBTQ and Allies will host the eighth annual Lavender Graduation at 7 p.m. April 28 at the Rhatigan Student Center (Room 233).

This is a special ceremony honoring the achievements of graduating lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ+) students at Wichita State. Students have the option to be recognized openly or privately at this event.

To attend, students RSVP by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, April 25 to receive their lavender or rainbow cord.

Leah Thomas is a celebrated environmentalist based in Santa Barbara, California. Coining the term eco-communicator to describe her style of environmental activism. She is a passionate advocate for exploring the relationship between social justice and environmentalism.

She founded and launched Intersectional Environmentalist in 2020, a resource hub and platform that aims to advocate for environmental justice, provide educational resources surrounding intersectional environmentalism, and promote exclusivity and accessibility within environmental education and movements.

Leah published the book “The Intersectional Environmentalist” in March 2022. Her writing also appeared in a variety of publications, including Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire, and Highsnobiety; and she has been featured in Harper’s Bazaar, W Magazine, Domino, GOOP, and numerous podcasts.

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion is kicking off Queer History Month with a screening of the groundbreaking documentary film “Paris Is Burning” beginning at 7 p.m. today, Oct. 1 at Hubbard Hall. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

This landmark documentary provides a vibrant snapshot of the 1980s through the eyes of New York City’s African American and Latinx Harlem drag-ball scene. Made over seven years, “Paris Is Burning” offers an intimate portrait of rival fashion houses, from fierce contests for trophies to house mothers offering sustenance in a world rampant with homophobia, transphobia, racism, AIDS and poverty.

Snacks and drinks will be provided.
