Students are invited to enjoy a cupcake at no additional charge with their Shocker ID while supplies last from Brown Box Bakery Food Truck as they prepare for their final exams, courtesy of the office of Student Engagement, Advocacy and Leadership.

Visit the north patio of the Rhatigan Student Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, May 1. Flavor options will include wedding cake, cookie dough and Reese’s.

Hippodrome is a celebration of the arts and features the creative talents of Shockers. The 94th annual Hippodrome will feature performances in its skit & talent competition at 7 p.m. Friday, March 31 in the CAC Theater.

Groups participating in the skit competition will perform a 15 to 20 minute scripted performance with the use of this year’s theme: “Superheroes: ‘It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No…it’s a…Hippo.'” The top three winners will receive awards, as well as individual awards for best actor, best use of mystery item and spirit.

The talent competition will be hosted in conjunction with the skit competition. Performers will take the stage between skit performances, and the first, second and third place winners will take home cash prizes up to $150.

Student Engagement, Advocacy & Leadership (SEAL) is seeking volunteers to judge its skit and talent competition for the upcoming Hippodrome, a celebration of Shocker talent, on Friday, March 31.

Students interested in participating in Hippodrome can do so by either creating a skit, showcasing a talent or emceeing the show. This year, Hippodrome will feature these performances in the skit and talent competition at 7 p.m. on March 31 in the CAC Theater. The deadline to apply is Monday, March 6.

Shocktoberfest 2022 October 20-29 Student Engagement, Advocacy & Leadership

There are just a few days left of Shocktoberfest 2022 — a campus tradition that’s 32 years strong.

Highlights include Shocker Madness on Thursday at Koch Arena, Fright Night on Friday and Heskett Center and the marquee event: Songfest on Sunday at the Wichita Orpheum Theatre.

Songfest teams have been practicing for months, and they’re ready to wow audiences with their choreography, music selections and costumes at 6 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Orpheum Theater, 200 N. Broadway in Wichita.

Songfest is an annual dance and lip sync competition hosted annually by Wichita State University’s Office of Student Engagement, Advocacy & Leadership. Groups competing in Songfest 2022:

Tickets are $10 for the general public and $5 for children 12 and younger. Free tickets will be provided to the first 250 students in line for the event with proof of a valid Shocker ID. Tickets can be purchased at the Orpheum box office or online at the link below.

Are you interested in judging Songfest 2022? The Office of Student Engagement, Advocacy & Leadership is requesting five to seven staff, faculty, alumni and campus partners to serve as judges for the show at 5 p.m. Nov. 6.

Songfest is an annual dance and lip sync competition that rounds out Shocktoberfest Oct. 20-29. During the event, teams practice will perform with choreography, music selections and costumes.

Registration is now open for student organizations that want to compete in the 2022 Shocktoberfest Octo. 20-29. To qualify, a minimum of five active members of a registered student organization are required to participate.

Since 1991, Shocktoberfest has been Wichita State’s annual fall celebration of Shocker Spirit and Pride. This multi-day series features events, activities and competitions coordinated by the Office of Student Engagement, Advocacy & Leadership, with support from the Student Activities Council and several campus partners.

For 2022, competing student organizations will collect points by attending and participating in specific events throughout the week for their chance to win the Shocktoberfest Trophy and cash prizes.
