The Wichita State AmeriCorps program has nearly two dozen service opportunities available for students in May and June. The positions include a variety of tasks and students can earn a stipend and qualify for an $2,000 WSU scholarship.

The service positions include teaching children to read, helping with local community gardens, assisting with a variety of office tasks, coordinating volunteers, writing grants for nonprofits, and various other tasks.

In these positions, students earn a stipend, have an opportunity for an education award after service, and qualify to apply for a $2,000 WSU scholarship after a year of service.

The service positions include teaching children to read, helping with local community gardens, assisting with a variety of office tasks, coordinating volunteers, writing grants for nonprofits, and a variety of other tasks.

The Wichita State AmeriCorps program has 20 service positions open to students at this time. These positions include part-time, full-time, summer only and year-long positions which will involve hands-on working with children, office positions, coordinating projects, helping promote nonprofits, or other tasks.

The positions are located in Wichita. Members selected for AmeriCorps service positions receive a living stipend and qualify for an education award upon completing their term of service.

Undergraduate and graduate students who serve with AmeriCorps can apply for a $2,000 scholarship from Wichita State’s Office of Financial Aid or Graduate School.

Since January 2022, six students serving with AmeriCorps were awarded $1,000 spring scholarships. The following members include:

In addition to applying for the scholarships, AmeriCorps members who complete their year of service also qualify for a Segal Education Award of $6,000 or a cash stipend.

The Wichita State University Community Engagement Institute is looking for five candidates for service positions at Wichita State through AmeriCorps. The positions include opportunities with the Shocker Neighborhood Association, Psychology Department, Center for Public Health Initiatives at Community Engagement Institute, Prevention Initiatives at CEI and a Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) leader position for someone who has previous AmeriCorps experience.

AmeriCorps members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at Wichita State or a nonprofit organization, and earn a modest living allowance of $15,000. After a successful year of service, members are eligible for an education award of $6,000 or a post-service stipend. Current and past members are also eligible to apply for one of seven $2,000 Wichita State scholarships.

VISTA member candidates must meet the following:

  • Must be 18 years old.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must have limited criminal history and meet the requirements of the agency where they apply.
