The Office of Student Accommodations and Testing (OSAT) and Intervention Services & Leadership in Education (ISLE) will offer a workshop, “ADHD is Real/Realistic Solutions for Managing College Life and ADHD,” from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 28 in 141 Woolsey Hall, Fidelity Bank Ballroom.

The workshop will cover social/emotional issues, combatting negative self-talk and self-care for students with the diagnosis of ADHD. OSAT and ISLE will also provide strategies on how to prepare for finals. Pizza will be provided for attendees. The speakers will be Isabel Medina Keiser, M.A., director of OSAT; Dr. Jody Fiorini, Ph.D., LCPC, NCC, professor and ISLE department head; and Dr. Reagan Murnan, Ph.D., associates professor at ISLE.

Due to the recent outages, the online test information/submission form with Testing Services is down. Faculty who have students receiving testing accommodations through the Office of Disability Services should deliver exams to 320 Grace Wilkie Hall or email them to testingcenter@wichita.edu.

The Office of Disability Services is using a new software system to distribute accommodation letters to faculty starting spring 2023.

They will be emailed to faculty and will state the name of the intake specialist and come from disability.services@aim.wichita.edu. The subject will read as “Class, CRN # – Notification of Academic Accommodation Services.”

Any questions or concerns about the accommodations can be sent to Disability Services at disability.services@wichita.edu.

Effective Monday, Oct. 3, Testing Services will scan each examinee with a metal detector wand prior to entry into the test room. This process has been established to verify that no electronic devices are being brought into the exam room.

Examinees requesting to opt out of the wanding for medical or safety reasons (such as pregnancy, inserted medical devices, etc.) must request this accommodation through the Office of Disability Services at disability.services@wichita.edu. Students must request this accommodation at least one work week before the exam. Examinees who decline to be wanded, without an approved accommodation, will be required to reschedule their test.

The Office of Disability Services (ODS) and Chartwells (Wichita State Dining Services) will offer a Food Allergy Awareness table 9 a.m.-2 p.m. today at Shocker Hall. The event is a collaborative effort between ODS, WSU Housing and Chartwells to provide information to WSU students about food allergies and other health issues related to food.

Food allergies involve the immune system and can be life-threatening. More than 170 foods are known to cause food allergies, but eight foods account for nine out of 10 reactions in the United States. These food include the following: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, fish and shellfish.

Food allergies are considered a disability.
