Dr. Nick Solomey, WSU professor of physics, and Dr. Stephanie Vivod, chemical engineer at NASA Glenn Research Center, will discuss how to successfully apply for funding and funding opportunities at 10 a.m. Feb. 2 via Zoom. The event is hosted by the Office of Research.

Dr. Scott Miller, chair and professor of aerospace engineering, and director of the Kansas NASA EPSCoR Program (KNEP), will offer a virtual presentation about the KNEP program at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 10.

The goal of NASA Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) is to provide seed funding that will enable jurisdictions to develop an academic research enterprise directed toward long-term, self-sustaining, nationally competitive capabilities in aerospace and aerospace-related research.

Wichita State’s Office of Research will host a virtual W.M. Keck Foundation workshop at 10 a.m. Oct. 29. During the workshop, Dr. Coleen Pugh, vice provost for Research and dean of the Graduate School, will present on the topic of applying to the W.M. Keck Foundation.

The W.M. Keck Foundation research program seeks to benefit humanity by supporting projects in two specific areas: Medical research and science and engineering. The medical research and science and engineering projects must be distinctive and novel in their approach. They must also question the prevailing paradigm, or have the potential to break open new territory in their field.

If you are new at applying for external funding or new to applying for external funding at WSU, please plan to attend a one-hour Introduction to the WSU Office of Research Workshop which will take place at the dates below via Zoom.

  • 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9
  • noon, Wednesday, Sept. 15
  • 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21
  • 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 30

The one-hour workshop will include resources and contact information, Wichita State policies and procedures, ideas on searching for funding opportunities, basic project budgeting and grant writing tips.

Wichita State’s Office of Research will host a workshop about the American Chemical Society’s Petroleum Research Fund (ACS PRF) 12:30-2 p.m. Sept. 30 via Zoom. 

The next grant application window for ACS-PRF is Sept. 20-Oct. 15. The workshop will educate members about ACS PRF, aid in refining research ideas and discuss how to have more success in applying to the ACS PRF grant program.

Dr. Coleen Pugh, WSU’s Office of Research vice provost and the Graduate School dean, will present at the workshop. Dr. Pugh has more than 30 years of experience in the research field of Polymer Science and serves on the Board Standing Committee of the ACS PRF, making funding recommendations for this program related to Committee 7: Polymer Science.

Wichita States Office of Research will host two workshops for faculty this week via Zoom. The workshops will cover the following:

  •  WSU Faculty Support Committee workshop on Internal Grant Opportunities — 8:30-10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26: The Faculty Support Committee will present a workshop on WSU Internal Grant Opportunities including University Research/Creative Projects (URCA), Multidisciplinary Research Projects (MURPA) and Award for Research/Creative (ARC). These internal grant applications are for seed funding only available to WSU faculty.
  • WSU Office of Research Introduction for New Faculty — noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27: Fran Cook, WSU Office of Research training manager, will present “Introduction to the Office of Research for New Faculty.” Cook will cover resources and contacts for Wichita State’s Office of Research, how to find funding, how to grant budgeting and provide grant writing tips. A question and answer session will also be included.
