A number of sports organizations, including those in European club football and tennis, have levied sanctions against Russia in the wake of its invasion of Ukraine. The Associated Press recently approached Usha Haley for her opinion.

Haley is the W. Frank Barton Distinguished Chair in International Business, and elected chair of the World Trade Council of Wichita.

Haley has done in-depth research on the efficacy of sanctions and boycotts and has featured some of this research in her book on Apartheid in South Africa, “Multinational Corporations in Political Environments:  Ethics, Values and Strategies.”

Usha Haley’s research covering the difficulties of identifying opportunities in emerging markets was recently covered in a thought-leadership article by IQ Insigniam Quarterly on Emerging Markets. Insigniam is a global consulting firm for large organizations.

Haley is the W. Frank Barton Distinguished Chair in International Business, and elected chair of the World Trade Council of Wichita. She is an expert in emerging markets.

The Food Institute, a leading think tank in the food industry, recently approached W. Frank Barton Distinguished Chair in International Business and professor of management Usha Haley. They asked Haley about her views regarding how the food supply chain and consumers will be affected by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Haley is also the elected chair of the World Trade Council of Wichita. The institute’s analysis of the cascading effects of the Ukraine crisis, including their interview with Haley can be viewed on The Food Institute website.

Usha Haley, W. Frank Barton Distinguished Chair in International Business and professor of management, completed an article for a medical journal on misapplications of statistical data and techniques to make recommendations to fix this issue. The research indicates that 80% of medical doctors do not understand the assumptions underlying the statistics that they quoted. Fortune (Education) also recently quoted Haley on her research.

The Governor’s Exporter of the Year Award is the highest honor the Governor of Kansas awards to exporting businesses. To apply, fill out the 2022 nomination form by Jan. 31.

Exporters of the Year are considered the best in the class in conducting overseas business from Kansas.

“Kansas businesses continually make a mark by creating outstanding products and services which are sought-after by customers around the world,” Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly said. “The Governor’s Exporter of the Year Award is our way of recognizing Kansas businesses that are tremendous ambassadors for our state and provide significant benefit in our communities and to our state’s economy.”

To qualify for the award, companies must currently operate in and export from Kansas. There are no restrictions on who may nominate a company for the award.

The Center for International Business Advancement (CIBA) and the World Trade Council of Wichita (WTCouncil) will host a virtual presentation at the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (IFIT), a leading think tank in Washington, D.C., at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28.

Panelists for this event will include Usha Haley, W. Frank Barton Distinguished Chair in International Business, and director of the Center for International Business Advancement; Scott Kennedy, Center for Strategic and International Studies, and Peter Cowhey, former dean at University of California San Diego. 

Haley will speak on preliminary results from her National Science Foundation-funded research and forthcoming authored book for the Oxford University Press. China is now on the front-burner for policy with various federal government agencies and the U.S. Congress is giving it focused attention. Technology and patent protection has emerged as a top issue for the U.S. and many other countries and companies worldwide that deal with China either as trading partner or as investor. The panel will contribute to this discussion.

Wichita State’s Graduate School at the W. Frank Barton School of Business will host a webinar on the topic of Researching for impact noon-1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, via Zoom.

Three WSU panelists will be featured:

Frank Barton of Distinguished Chair in International Business, director of the Center for International Business Advancement and elected Chair of the World Trade Council of Wichita — for her advice on how to establish the value of scholarly work in business schools.

The AACSG is a major accreditation body for business schools worldwide.

Editors from Fortune magazine recently approached Usha Haley — W. Frank Barton of Distinguished Chair in International Business, and director of the Center for International Business Advancement — for her views on the WH Group’s recent turmoil and its effect on the U.S. pork industry.

The U.S. pork industry is currently experiencing strategic uncertainty as the Chinese-based WH Group, which acquired the American-based Smithfield Foods in 2013, is in the middle of a family feud.

Haley has written several books on Chinese business strategy and has testified numerous times before U.S. Congress on the issue.
