Are you looking to attend graduate school for 2023? Attend the Wichita State’s Master of Social Work (MSW) degree informational session Friday, Oct. 21 via Zoom.

Students of any major are eligible to apply for our Master of Social Work program.

The deadline for the 2022-23 MSW program applications is Jan. 13, 2023.

Sessions will introduce students to the MSW program, introduce them to meet MSW faculty members and walk them through the application process. A graduate record examination is not required for admission consideration.

Do you have students looking for a right fit graduate program? Wichita State’s Master of Social Work (MSW) program is accepting applications for the 2023-2024 school year. The program is open to all majors and has both full- and part-time schedule options.

The deadline to apply is January 13, 2023. Information about future virtual informational sessions will be available in future newsletters.

MSW students go on to work in mental health, forensics, health care, addiction treatment, aging, schools, international settings, child and family welfare, disaster relief, and a variety of other career fields. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for social work during the next decade is growing faster than average.

Sherry Chapman, retired associate clinical professor, died Aug. 21 after an extended illness. Sherry taught at the Wichita State School of Social Work from 2007 to 2017.

Sherry positively impacted thousands of people both as an instructor, as a licensed clinical social worker and as a registered play therapist. She received her Bachelor of Social Work from WSU and her Master of Social Work from the University of Kansas. Sherry taught across the social work curriculum and provided support and leadership with the annual social work POWER Conference at Wichita State.

A viewing will be today at 6 p.m., followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. St. Mary Catholic Parish. Services for Sherry will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25 at St. Mary Catholic Parish in Derby, Kansas. Her interment will be at Hill Crest Cemetery (also in Derby) following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations will be made to WSU’s School of Social Work.

Associate clinical professor Deah Davis has announced she will retire from the Wichita State School of Social Work in December. Please help celebrate her social work career as both a social work practitioner and educator with messages, photos and well wishes at this Kudoboard link

Davis has taught in both the Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work programs since 2009. Davis was integral in developing WSU’s Undergraduate Certificate in Social Work and Addiction. She also provided years of service for the annual POWER Conference, student groups and many other organizations both locally and at the national level. The school thanks her for the important work she has done during her career, both as part of the social work practice community and here as an educator at Wichita State.
