WSU is hosting a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 8 and Thursday, April 9 in the Heskett Center lobby. To schedule your time to donate blood, visit redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code: Wichita State.

This drive will be held in honor of Red Cross Club member Adalynn Hoefgen’s mother, who is currently receiving treatment for cancer. The Interfraternity Council (IFC) will also be supporting the Red Cross Club with this drive. The Red Cross Club has been very visible on campus through several tabling events, including the volunteer recruitment event in January and the Wellness Expo event this week, helping to build awareness and encourage participation for the club and future blood drives.

Shayla Hoefgen is a dedicated school psychologist who has made a lasting impact on the students and colleagues she supports every day. Currently battling stage three colorectal cancer, Shayla has shown incredible strength and resilience throughout her journey. During her treatment, she both received lifesaving blood products and contributed to cancer research by donating blood. This blood drive is being held in her honor to celebrate her courage and to encourage the community to come together to help save lives through blood donation. In recognition of her courage and commitment to helping others, this blood drive is being held to encourage the community to come together and give the gift of life.

A blood drive is being hosted on campus from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27 and Wednesday, Jan. 28 in the Heskett Center lobby.

All donors will receive a $20 e-gift card to the merchant of their choice. To schedule your appointment visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-733-2767 and use sponsor code: WichitaState.

The blood drive is hosted in partnership with the American Red Cross Student Chapter at Wichita State.

Sheryl Propst

Sheryl Propst, director of Talent Management, will be leaving WSU on Jan. 5, 2026. Having served for over 13 years, Sheryl has made many significant contributions which have both supported and elevated the university in the areas of leadership development, employee recognition and talent acquisition.

She is getting married and relocating to Topeka, which also means she’ll be closer to her son who lives in KC. She will begin a new role as director of workforce development and optimization with Stormont Vail Health in January.

Out of respect for Sheryl’s wishes, we will not be hosting a farewell reception. Please reach out to her individually to share your well wishes and swap contact information.

Human Resources is putting a transition plan in place which includes naming Tara LaForce as the interim talent acquisition manager and re-evaluating strategic priorities and projects within Talent Management.
