Karla Burns’ legacy of music and drama is one of Wichita State University’s most prominent contributions to the performing arts.

Burns, 66, died June 4 in Wichita. She attended Dunbar Elementary School and graduated from West High School. At Wichita State, she earned bachelor’s degrees in music education and in speech/theater, both in 1981.

Wichita State University has entered an agreement with the University of Kansas School of Law to offer the Legal Education Accelerated Degree program, with an anticipated launch of fall 2021.

Five-year-old Ford Hall has had to overcome more in his short life than most do in a lifetime. That’s because immediately after he was born, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. The doctors informed his mother he would probably never be able to walk.

“It was that conversation with that doctor that really lit a fire in us,” said Cori Hall, Ford’s mother.

The Office of Academic Affairs will interview three dean candidates for the College of Engineering. 

The first candidate, Dr. Anthony Muscat, from the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the University of Arizona, professor, will be on campus on May 25 and May 26. 

Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend a public forum at 4 p.m. May 25 at the Rhatigan Student Center in Room 233. The forum will also be streamed live on YouTube.

A group of former Wichita State rowers helped raise money, plan and organize construction of the Riverside Rowing Center Boathouse at Riverside Park on the Little Arkansas River.

The Wichita Rowing Association founded Wichita State University crew in 1974, and that shared history remains important to many former Shockers.

On May 8, the WRA dedicated its $250,000 Riverside Rowing Center Boathouse at Riverside Park on the Little Arkansas River. The project, privately funded, involved many former Shocker rowers who spent decades dreaming, planning and working toward construction. They remain committed to nurturing the sport because of the influence it’s had on their lives.

In December of 2020, Wichita State class of 2017 graduate Max Runyon created Literal Larry, a viral parody account on Twitter (@ImLiteralLarry1), which led him to land a remote role as a creative strategist with 180 New York.
