It’s time to apply for the the fall 2022 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) campaign.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) allows students to apply for a full range of possible financial aid programs, including work-study, grants and loans. Learn more at WSU’s FAFSA page.

Many Wichita State students have benefitted from FAFSA, including Iris Okere, WSU junior in marketing with a minor in Spanish.

“Completing the FAFSA early allows you to be considered for need-based scholarships,” said Iris.

If students need assistance, they can set up an appointment at the Wichita State Financial Aid office page.

Join a discussion with world-renowned sculptor Deborah Butterfield to celebrate the acquisition of her work “Lumen” beginning at 6 p.m. today, Oct. 13 at Woolsey Hall. “Lumen” is a beautiful piece and a new to the Ulrich’s Martin H. Bush Outdoor Sculpture Collection.

Butterfield’s body of work has been expanding since the mid-1970s. During the course of her long career, Butterfield has returned repeatedly to images of horses and has created them from all kinds of materials, including scrap metal and discarded auto parts. Her most iconic pieces are carefully constructed from sticks and other pieces of found wood which are then cast in bronze, re-assembled, and welded together.

Dr. Deemathie De Silva, known to many former students as Dr. D, passed away Sept. 29. A celebration of life is scheduled 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Cozine Life Events Center (11500 E. 21st St. N. Wichita, KS).

Dr. De Silvea is credited with helping thousands of underdog students get their degrees. She was the longtime director of a WSU program that provides free tutoring and resources to students from low-income families, students with disabilities and potential first-generation college grads.

She also helped secure millions in federal dollars for students due to her ties to the business community. In addition to this, her work with the World Trade Council of Wichita, an organization co-founded by her late husband, Dr. Dharma de Silva, has impacted international business in south-central Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Wichita State University Foundation for the benefit of the Dr. Deema de Silva Memorial Fund, which will be directed toward student support funds by the family.

Contributions may be made via the Wichita State University Foundation (1845 Fairmount, Wichita, KS 67260-0002). Online gifts may be made at the website below. foundation.wichita.edu/memorials-honors/.
