The HR Total Rewards team reminds faculty and staff that the deadline for summer 2023 tuition assistance applications is Monday, April 17. Tuition assistance applications for summer 2023 are submitted through the online application form.

Due to the volume of applications received each semester, requests to submit late applications will be automatically denied without exception.

The Wichita Sky Kings basketball team invites the Wichita State community to a series of games with special guests at no charge with a Shocker ID or other proof of WSU affiliation.

The campus community can enjoy the following games at Charles Koch Arena, each featuring a different special guest:

  • 7 p.m. Saturday, April 15 – Sky Kings vs. Southeast Texas Panthers, featuring special guest Larry Thomas, who played Yev Kassem in Seinfeld.
  • 3 p.m. Sunday, April 16 – Sky Kings vs. Enid Outlaws, featuring special guest Markquis Nowell, point guard from the Kansas State Wildcats.
  • 7 p.m. Friday, April 21 – Sky Kings vs. St. Louis Griffins, featuring special guest Marquez Valdes-Scantling, wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Attendees can also bring their families to the games at no additional charge.

The Wichita Police Department will use the former Intensive English Learning Center building at 17th and Hillside for routine bomb squad training from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 13.

The campus community may see armored vehicles and an elevated police presence at the location. This is only for training purposes.

Academic Affairs is proud to welcome Dr. Brett Bruner as the new assistant vice president for Student Success and Persistence.

Bruner will join Wichita State effective May 15. As the assistant vice president of Student Success and Persistence, he will focus on how to best serve our students as they pursue degree completion by developing and directing university-wide student success and retention strategies and programs that align with the university vision.

He began as a peer mentor 20 years ago and most recently served as the assistant vice president and dean of students in the Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment Management at Missouri Western State University.

Bruner received his bachelor’s degree from Emporia State University, his master’s from the University of Central Missouri and his doctorate from Baker University.

“I envisioned one day leading student success efforts on a campus that is innovative in its approaches to authentically supporting student success… I have assumed leadership roles in supervising nearly every possible student services functional area (and then some),” Bruner said. “I am excited about the opportunity to use my skills and unique background to support Wichita State University.”

Colton Ediger, an e-commerce and technology coordinator in the Rhatigan Student Center Shocker Store, was named Midwest Association of Student Employment Administrators Student Employee of the Year in Technology & Innovation.

Earlier this year, Colton was awarded the division’s first Student Affairs (SA) Student Employee of the Year at the Student Employee Awards and Recognition event aiming to highlight the incredible work and talent student employees bring to offices around campus.

It encourages the campus to celebrate 2023 National Student Employment Week happening this week, April 9-15.

The north half of the lot east of the Corbin Education Center, lot 5, will be blocked off for a firework display on Friday, April 14 after the softball game, which starts at 6 p.m. in Wilkins Stadium.

For safety reasons, all vehicles parked on the north side of the lot will need to be moved out of the area by the night of Thursday, April 13.

The Wichita Public Library and Big Read: Wichita partners are excited to welcome Roz Chast, author of “Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant?,” the book selected for 2023’s National Endowment of the Arts Big Read: Wichita, for her presentation from 6 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 15 in the WSU Hughes Metroplex, 5015 E. 29th St. N.

Chast will share her work as a cartoonist and discuss her work as an author, and she will be introduced by President Muma. The presentation is co-sponsored by Wichita State, the Wichita Public Library Foundation, and the Friends of the Wichita Public Library.

Join the Student Government Association (SGA) Student Senate for a meeting at 6:30 p.m. today in 233 RSC. There will also be a livestream available on the SGA YouTube.

The Wichita State SGA is the governing entity for the student experience at the university. SGA is charged with promoting and stimulating student participation in the university’s activities and providing an official channel of communication between the students, faculty, staff and administration.

The Wichita State Sustainability Council is accepting abstract submissions for its the third Student Research Poster Showcase from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22 in the Rhatigan Student Center. All students are encouraged to submit an abstract for the showcase. Intersectional research, specific projects, program evaluations and new ideas are all welcome.

Potential submissions can include the following sustainability research topics:

  • Sustainable manufacturing
  • Climate change
  • Green infrastructure
  • Waste/recycling
  • Environmental justice
  • Sustainability in education
  • Water/wastewater
  • Urban planning

The deadline to submit an abstract is Thursday, April 13.

The 65th session of the Student Government Association is coming to a close, and President John Kirk, along with his executive team, would like to show their appreciation to the student body for their support over the past year.

The give back food truck drive will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 12 in the Shocker Hall Courtyard. Representatives from the Student Government Association will on location to pass out the free meal tickets to a truck of choice to students until the end of the event. This will be the last event held by the 65th session’s executive branch before the transition to a new government.

Three food trucks that frequent the campus have been invited to the event:
