Wichita State’s literary journal Mikrokosmos is hosting its launch party for volume 68 at the Ulrich Museum of Art at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 19. Free copies of the journal will be available to all students and alumni that attend, but donations are encouraged.

Mikrokosmos, Wichita State University’s premier literary journal, is seeking art submissions for its print and online journal issues. Submissions will be accepted until Friday, March 11. The art submissions should embody the following:

  • Any form of art (paintings, photography, sculptures, etc.) is acceptable.
  • There is a limit of three submissions per person.
  • Selected art will be used for cover art and placed intermittently inside the issue.

Wichita State’s English Department is currently seeking creative writing fiction and poetry submissions for their print publication Mikrokosmos and online publication mojo.

Cash prizes are available in both the fiction and poetry categories:

  • First prize $200
  • Second prize $100
  • Third prize $50

Writers can submit their work via submittable. Writers are encouraged to submit in both categories.

The English Graduate Student Association in conjunction with the Sigma Tau Delta chapter and the Philosophy Society of Wichita State University are currently accepting submissions for the first Wichita State Humanities Conference March 4, 2022. Submissions will be accepted through Dec. 11. The conference will take place on campus and is open to undergraduate and graduate students. A remote attendance option will also be available for audience members and presenters.

To apply, potential presenters must submit an abstract of at least 300 words and a short biography of 100 words. Potential Topics/Subjects may include:

  • Philosophy
  • Language/linguistics
  • Literature
  • Art
  • History
  • Social Sciences
  • Communication
  • Anthropology
  • Theater: Performances and scholarly work
  • Political sciences
  • Creative Pieces: Poetry, visual art and musical performances

Submissions should be papers or presentations related to fields of the humanities and should be 10-15 minutes in length. Submissions selected for the conference will be revealed Jan. 15, 2022.

Mikrokosmos 68 is now open for submissions.

Students, faculty, and alumni are invited to send fiction, poetry, and nonfiction to mojoeditors@gmail.com with the subject line “Mikro 68 Submission” to be considered for publication. Submissions close Oct. 23. Please add a bio to the submission.

For fiction and nonfiction, please keep your submission below 6,000 words. If submitting multiple works of flash-fiction or short fiction, please limit your submission to three pieces.

For poetry, You may send up to four poems or eight pages maximum.

Join Wichita State’s English Department for the release party of the 67th volume of Mikrokosmos beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17 at the McKnight Atrium. Mikrokosmos is the literary journal for the English Department’s Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing.

All students, faculty and members of the community are invited. The  party will feature readings from our contributing authors.
