URCA proposals are due by Oct. 3 to the Office of Research

Proposals are due to the Office of Research for University Research/Creative Award (URCA) projects no later than 5 p.m. Oct. 3. The URCA opportunity provides funding of up to $4,500 for faculty to retool or reestablish productive research/creative projects or as seed money to develop pilot data where external funding is available.

Proposers must work with a grant specialist in the Office of Research prior to submission and all complete applications require an endorsement from the chair and dean. Incomplete or late applications will not be reviewed or considered. Email proposals@wichita.edu today to get started or visit the website for additional information.

Proposals are due to the Office of Research for Multidisciplinary Research Project Awards (MURPA) no later than 5 p.m. Oct. The MURPA opportunity provides funding of up to $7,500 for faculty projects that involve two or more investigators from different disciplines that focus different perspectives and capabilities on complex problems that intersect established areas of study.

Applied engineering student in NIAR robotics lab

College of Engineering’s applied engineering program earns ABET accreditation

In response to feedback from employers and alumni, the College of Engineering adapted its engineering technology program to the applied engineering program in fall 2023. Recently, the college announced that the applied engineering program is now accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, under the commission’s General Criteria with no applicable program criteria. This accreditation assures students that the program meets high-quality standards recognized globally, enhancing their educational experience and increasing their competitiveness in the job market.

Military and Veteran Services celebrates U.S. Air Force birthday

Join Military and Veteran Services in celebration of the United States Air Force birthday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18 at 318 Shocker Success Center.

Enjoy coffee and donuts at 10 a.m. generously donated by Vet-to-Vet Support Command, grab some light snacks and refreshments at 11 a.m., and take part in a birthday cake cutting at 12:30 a.m. Additionally, take part in a walking tour of the center where you can learn fun facts about the USAF, enjoy a slide show and videos that celebrates everything Air Force and, lastly, get your vocal cords ready to join in on the singing of the Air Force Song.

Wichita State University’s Club Sports teams are gearing up for an exciting weekend of championship and home matches. Come out and support students:

Cricket Club championship match
The WSU Cricket Club will compete for the TCSL Championship against Oklahoma State University from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at Dr. Glen Dey Park, located on 27th and Hillside.
Men’s Soccer Club home match
The WSU Men’s Soccer Club will host Arkansas State University at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. at the Hughes Metropolitan Complex playfields.
Women’s Soccer Club home match
The WSU Women’s Soccer Club will take on Missouri State University at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14 also at the Hughes Metropolitan Complex playfields.

Admission is free and open to the public.

There is still time to register for WSU’s largest one day volunteer event

Join WSU’s largest one day volunteer event with Wu’s Big Event Sept. 20. Join your fellow Shockers for a morning of volunteering throughout the community. Individuals, groups, organizations and students are all invited to attend. Check-in for Wu’s Big Event will be from 8:30 to 8:50 a.m.

The kick-off will begin at 9 a.m. in the 305/306 Rhatigan Student Center, Beggs Ballroom with a light breakfast and kick-off celebration. Participants will then load the buses and be at a service site by 10 a.m. Volunteers will work until noon and return to the Beggs Ballroom for lunch and closing festivities.
