Join the TRIO Student Support Services staff and participants as they kick off the fall 2024 semester with a workshop facilitated and presented by the SSS executive director, Dr. Linda F. Rhone, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23 in 141 Woolsey Hall, Fidelity Bank Ballroom.
Dr. Rhone will debut her memoir and present on the topic of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Resilience. Dr. Rhone will share how the ACEs affected her throughout her life and how resilience led her in her journey to healing. Adverse Childhood Experiences, or ACEs, are potentially traumatic events that occur in childhood (0-18 years). Examples include (but are not limited to): experiencing violence, abuse or neglect; witnessing violence in the home or community; having a family member attempt or die by suicide; and/or growing up in a household with substance abuse and mental health issues.
Dr. Rhone will read excerpts from her memoir, share resources for learning more about ACEs and will also share resources that will connect students with campus and community support for helping to reduce the effects of ACEs. The campus community and surrounding area Wichita community is also invited to attend. Light refreshments will be provided.
