School of Performing Arts honors Ed Baker’s retirement after two decades of service

After more than twenty years of service, the School of Performing Arts celebrates the retirement of Professor Ed Baker, whose leadership, mentorship and creative vision have had a lasting impact on Wichita State.

Join the School of Performing Arts for a reception to mark the impact of an incredible educator, leader, mentor and friend from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7 in Wilner Auditorium.

Since joining the faculty in 2006, Baker has served as technical director and educator, playing a vital role in hundreds of productions while championing safety, innovation and artistic excellence.

In addition to his work in the theatre, Baker provided impactful leadership and service to the College of Fine Arts and the university, contributing his expertise to production planning, facilities oversight and collaborative initiatives that supported academic and artistic excellence across disciplines.

He has been a trusted voice in advancing best practices for safety, operations and student-centered learning, and he has generously mentored faculty and staff, particularly in areas of professional development and institutional knowledge.

Baker also developed the Stage Management Certificate program, expanding applied learning opportunities for students and strengthening the school’s curriculum.

A Wichita State alumnus, his career reflects a lifelong commitment to theatre education, collaboration and service. His influence will continue to be felt through the countless students, colleagues and artists he supported throughout his career.
