Memorial Day – Honors those who gave the ultimate sacrifice

Memorial Day is more than just a three day weekend. It is a time to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives for our Nation’s freedom. This Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, Military and Veterans Services asks everyone to take a pause to remember the fallen who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

It began as Decoration Day in the 1860’s when families decorated the graves of their loved ones lost in the Civil War. After World War I, it expanded to honor those lost in all wars and became a federal holiday In 1971.

“Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices.” – President Harry S. Truman
