Join HOPE Services, following the Mini-Wellness Fair, for its #WSUWeSupportU Mental Wellness and Preventing Suicide from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18 in 261 Rhatigan Student Center, Olive Room.

Learn about tools to support the community and assist someone in need. Students, staff and faculty are welcome to sign up for the training.

Interested in learning more about cybersecurity? Join Women in Cybersecurity for an introductory meeting at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6 in 262 Rhatigan Student Center, Herrman Room.

Women in CyberSecurity is dedicated to promoting equality in the cybersecurity field. It will provide an overview of the organization and discussing its upcoming events, including professional development sessions, technical workshops and social events. Women in CyberSecurity is open to all.

The department is honored to host Alexey Ladokhin from the University of Kansas, who will present his seminar titled “Successes and Challenges in Sequence-Based Thermodynamic Predictions of Protein-Membrane Interactions.”

Faculty, begin submitting your Test Information Forms for your students who utilize the Office of Student Accommodations & Testing (OSAT) for exams. You do not need to wait for your first exam to submit the forms. Forms are necessary for students to make appointments in a timely manner. You can access the online form on the OSAT website.

You may use same link/form for any make-up exams you have have during the semester. And remind students all exams require an appointment, OSAT does not accept walk-in testing. Exams are scheduled through registerblast.com/wsu

Join the Department of Physics for its first physics seminar of the fall 2024 semester at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4 in 226 Jabara Hall. The talk features Joseph Haley from Oklahoma State University, and the title of the talk will be “Searching for Naturalness: Quest for Vector-Like Quarks.” Cookies and coffee will be available in 030 Jabara Hall preceding the seminar at 1:30 p.m.

Haley’s research since joining OSU has been based on the ATLAS experiment at CERN where his team is searching for signs of new fundamental particles. He primary focus is searching for vector-like quarks — hypothetical particles that appear in many extensions to the Standard Model that could provide answers some of the open questions in particle physics.

Wichita State is participating in the VOLARÉ Institute as part of a project to build research capabilities and expand STEM initiatives for Hispanic-Serving Institutions. 

VOLARÉ Institute participants, chosen from an application process, will engage in a series of activities designed to enhance skills and boost the ability to compete for funding while elevating the research enterprise.  

“We are grateful to have been chosen by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities to participate in the first cohort of the VOLARÉ Institute,” said Coleen Pugh, dean of the Graduate School. “We consider this an important step to attaining our HSI goals, while also contributing WSU’s expertise to the program.”
