The WSU Foundation and Alumni Engagement team is looking for spirited volunteers to support the many exciting events planned for Shocktoberfest this year. Join in the festivities Oct. 5 for the Entrepreneur Market, Brew Garden + Fan Fest and the Shocktoberfest Parade. There will be a variety of roles and flexible time slots to choose from.

The Office of Planning and Analysis is hosting a workshop on survey methodology from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12 in 134 Woolsey Hall, AGH Classroom.

Presented by Dr. Lynn Matthews, assistant professor of marketing, faculty, staff and graduate students who are interested in, or planning to, conduct questionnaire-based research are encouraged to attend this free workshop. The workshop is for all levels, beginner to advanced. The workshop will focus on writing effective questions for questionnaires and surveys.

Join the Ulrich Museum of Art for the next edition of Writing Now Reading Now with Adam Scheffler, assistant professor of poetry, for a poetry reading at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10 in the Dr. Sam & Jacque Kouri Collection Study Center of the Ulrich Museum.

A reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. Scheffler is the author of two books of poetry, “Heartworm,” which won the 2021 Moon City Press prize, and “A Dog’s Life,” which won the 2016 Jacer Press Book contest. He holds a doctorate in English from Harvard.

The National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF-GRFP) supports outstanding seniors and graduate students. Dr. Coleen Pugh, dean of the Graduate School, will offer a workshop covering the application process from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 in 264 Rhatigan Student Center, Spencer Room.

Invite students to attend the workshop. Eligibility for the grant includes:

  • U.S. citizen, national or permanent resident
  • Enrolled or intend to enroll full-time in a research-based graduate degree in a STEM field or STEM education
  • Completed no more than one year of graduate school
  • Never earned a doctoral, master’s or professional degree in any field
  • High GPAs (>3.73)

The five-year fellowship includes three years of financial support including an annual stipend for the school and a cost of education allowance for the institution.
