Students, faculty and staff assemble the HOPE kits in the Student Wellness Center

A partnership between Wichita State and the University of Kansas is designed to help new mothers improve their mental health and prevent suicide.

For more than a year, HOPE kits, from WSU’s Health Outreach Prevention and Education Services, have helped people deal with mental health crises. Wichita State is taking that successful program and adapting it to the perinatal population with Growing HOPE kits, in coordination with the Center for Research for Infant Birth and Survival (CRIBS) at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita.

“We’re really excited to partner with Wichita State,” said Dr. Cari Schmidt, director of CRIBS. “We know that mental health challenges during pregnancy are one of the top complications that we see. Finding support for our families through this partnership and being able to provide our Growing HOPE kits is crucial to supporting their mental wellness and connecting them to resources.”

Vivian Zavataro, Ulrich Museum Executive, Joins Widener Global Leaders Program Advisory Board

The Widener Global Leaders Program has announced that Vivian Zavataro, executive and creative director of the Ulrich Museum of Art, has joined its advisory board. The WGLP is led by the Barton School of Business in collaboration with Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of Fine Arts, for students majoring in business, communication and fine arts. It is an interdisciplinary program designed to create the next generation of global female leaders and provide them with a transformational, multidisciplinary educational experience to help them thrive upon graduation.

“As a Brazilian-Italian woman who has dedicated my life to the arts, I believe in the values and mission of the Widener Global Leaders Program,” said Zavataro. “By providing these women with an opportunity to engage with others inside and outside of their community, they can grow personally and professionally more than they ever thought possible.”

Game day parking enforcement during the men’s basketball season will begin on Sunday, Oct. 27.

A number of lots in the vicinity of Koch Arena will be reserved for Shocker Athletic Scholarship Organization parking three hours before game time. Anyone previously parked in these lots will need to move their cars at that time. Parking improperly in a reserved game day lot will result in a $50 citation.

You can find a schedule of game days, lot closure times and a map of game day lots at wichita.edu/aparking. You are encouraged to plan ahead for parking on campus on game days.
