Do you have students exploring graduate school options for the coming year? Wichita State’s Master of Social Work (MSW) program is now accepting applications for 2025-26, and the deadline to apply is Jan. 10, 2025.

The program is open to all majors and has both full- and part-time schedule options. MSW students go on to work in mental health, forensics, health care, addiction treatment, aging, human resources, schools, international settings, child and family welfare, disaster relief, athletic programs and more. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for social work over the next decade is growing faster than average.

The next physics seminar will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13 in 226 Jabara Hall. The speaker will be Dr. Andrew Furmanski, assistant professor at the University of Minnesota, who will present the talk, “Neutrino Interaction Measurements at the Short Baseline Neutrino Program.”

Dr. Furmanski studies neutrinos and was involved in installing and commissioning the neutrino detector. Since joining the University of Minnesota, Dr. Furmanski and his team have had large input on the experiment’s results.

The physics seminar series brings several speakers to campus each semester and is sponsored by the Eddy and April Lucas Fund, Wichita.

Director of Counseling and Psychological Services, Christopher Leonard, Psy.D., has been appointed to the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB) Psychology Advisory Committee. The role of the Psychology Advisory Committee is to support the BSRB board in carrying out its mission to protect the public.

The Psychology Advisory Committee also addresses issues referred to the committee by the BRSB board regarding the practice of licensed psychology in the State of Kansas.

The Graduate School will host the sixth annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15 on the second floor of Rhatigan Student Center. During 3MT, each student competing will summarize the importance and impact of their research in three minutes.

The 3MT is a worldwide competition and the winner of the showcase will go on to represent Wichita State at a regional competition.

Wichita Collective Impact, a collaboration that includes Public Policy and Management Center (PPMC), was recognized as the Literacy Legacy Honoree at Storytime Village’s Read & Rise Breakfast Gala. PPMC is proud to be a partner in this impactful initiative, working alongside Cargill, Wichita Public Schools and Greater Wichita YMCA to advance literacy in the community.

For the Thursday, Nov. 14 men’s basketball game, a number of lots in the vicinity of Charles Koch Arena will be reserved for Shocker Athletic Scholarship Organization parking beginning at 3:30 p.m. During this time, signage will be in place alerting drivers of the impending lot assignment changes.

Anyone previously parked in these lots will need to move their cars by 3:30 p.m. Any unauthorized parking in a game day lot carries a $50 citation fine.

The next Faculty Senate meeting will be held 3:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11 in 211 Hubbard Hall.

Student Health is hosting a pop-up flu vaccine clinic for the WSU community from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 on the first floor lobby of the Shocker Success Center. Staff, faculty and students are encouraged to come get vaccinated.

If you have insurance, bring your insurance card; flu vaccine and administration fees may be free with WSU employee health insurance plans. If you are a student, fees can be applied to your myWSU student account.
