The Department of Biological Sciences spring 2024 seminar series continues from 4 to 5 p.m. Monday, March 4 in 231 Hubbard Hall, with Dr. Mohamed Fakhr, of the University of Tulsa, with his talk, “Campylobacter Survival In Retail Meats: An Interesting Story.”

Seminars are open to the public and undergraduates are encouraged to attend.

Step 5, signatures, of the annual performance evaluation cycle for non-teaching employees has started and employee signatures are due March 7. Employees can now login to myPerformance, review their evaluation, add any final comments, and electronically sign their evaluation.

Annual non-teaching employee performance evaluations for 2023-24 will be available for employee signatures beginning March 1 provided that their manager has submitted their manager review in myPerformance.

Employees should log into myPerformance then electronically sign and submit their 2023-24 evaluation by 11:59 p.m. Thursday, March 7.

Helpful hints:

  • Let your manager know if you don’t have access to your evaluation. Managers must “Submit” their manager review for you to have access.
  • Progress through each page of your evaluation to review all comments and ratings.
  • Enter your name in the signature field, click “Sign,” and then click “Submit” on the approval signature page and the submit review pop-up window.
  • To find in-progress or past evaluations in myPerformance, check the small box “Show completed and expired tasks” then click “Search.”

Student Health Services (SHS) is hosting its next Pee for Pizza event. It will take place noon-4 p.m. Wednesday, March 6 at the Student Wellness Center in the Steve Clark YMCA.

Pee for Pizza is a sexual health awareness event that allows participants to test for sexually transmitted illnesses such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, HIV and hepatitis C and know their status at no additional charge. Pizza is also provided to participants.

Co-sponsored by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Positive Direction and Shocker Sports Grill and Lanes, Pee for Pizza is by reservation only. No walk-ins will be accepted. Participants must not use the restroom at least one hour before testing.

Shocker Gaming Club

Shocker Gaming will host a tabletop-themed Lock-In from 7 p.m. to midnight Friday, March 1 at Daikon Cafe (6157 E. Harry St.). Join the event for a night of fun with other board game enthusiasts.

There will be other games available aside from tabletop games, everyone is welcome to bring their own game as well. it does not have to be tabletop-related.

It is $10 at the door and will include one meal and one drink.

The images are of Upward Bound Math Science participants during the summer 2023 and academic year. Students are participating in stem activities such as robotics, stem networking, go create, and meeting the WSU president.

Shockers are encouraged to apply for the Upward Bound Math Science (UBMS) summer Tutor Counselor positions. This is an opportunity to mentor and tutor first-generation high school students who go through the UBMS summer college simulation. Upward Bound Math Science is seeking individuals who enjoy working with youth, are motivated and have good leadership qualities.

The position will be held from May 20th, 2024- July 3, 2024. Training, room and board, and paid salary will be provided for those who are hired.

In conjunction with the National Weather Service, the State of Kansas will participate in the Severe Weather Preparedness Week from March 4 to 8. At 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, Sedgwick County Emergency Management Services will sound the severe weather sirens throughout the county.

All personnel — faculty, staff, students and guests — are expected to go to a designated shelter until the all clear is given. This drill will be educational for all involved and provide those overseeing campus safety a way of evaluating the effectiveness of WSU’s emergency preparedness during a tornado. Go to the Wichita State Tornado Shelters webpage to learn more about what to do during a tornado warning and to locate your designated shelter.

WSU Concert Choral Heads to Denver - Students in Wiedemann Recital Hall

In a historic moment for Wichita State, the WSU Concert Chorale is set to make its mark at the Southwestern Region American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Convention in Denver, Colorado on Saturday, March 2.

This significant achievement marks the first time in 30 years that WSU will be represented at an ACDA event.
