The INSPYRE research lab (directed by Dr. Samantha Slade) is currently recruiting undergraduate mentors for a three-hour course in the fall 2024 semester. Mentors spend lunch and recess with an elementary school student twice each week. In return, mentors receive three hours of course credit and many great experiences.

Mentors are required to: pass a background check, have reliable transportation to and from the elementary school, lunch availability from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at least twice a week and be available for a training at the beginning of the semester.

The class, PSY 608 – Special Investigations, does not meet regularly like a traditional class. Students will, however, have a course syllabus, class readings and paper assignments. Mentors will receive training at the beginning of the course and a grade at the end based on attendance and completion of assignments. Students from any college or major are encouraged to apply.

For more information, contact the INSPYRE research lab at inspyre@wichita.edu.

WSU’s Corbin Education Center is temporarily out of service because of flooding caused by a chilled water line break in the basement, causing power, data and HVAC outages throughout the building. Normal operations and scheduled classes will likely not return until Wednesday, March 27 as facilities personnel work on the building.

Students: If you have classes in Corbin, please check Blackboard and/or your email for updates. Your instructors will communicate whether class will be held in another campus location or remotely until Corbin is back open. If you have questions, please reach out to your instructor.

Instructors: If you teach in Corbin, you will need to either request an alternative classroom location by contacting Michele August at michele.august@wichita.edu or move your classes to remote on Monday and Tuesday. You may need to continue with alternative plans for several more days. Please communicate via Blackboard any updates on course delivery so your students know how to access their classes. Though the power is off, the building is secure. You may enter the building to retrieve items you need for the next few days. If you have questions, please reach out to the dean’s office: cas.dean@wichita.edu.

Staff: If you work in Corbin, you will need to work remotely on Monday and Tuesday and may need to continue working remotely for several more days. Further information will be communicated. Step 1, planning, of the annual performance evaluation cycle for non-teaching employees has started and is due March 31. Managers can now login to myPerformance and add expectations, competencies, and goals for the current review period then meet with their employee to review and provide a copy of their evaluation for reference throughout the year.

Annual non-teaching employee performance evaluations for 2024-25 are now accessible for managers to complete the planning step of the myPerformance evaluation cycle. Planning should be completed by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, March 31.

The 2024-25 review period begins March 1, 2024 and ends on Feb. 28, 2025. Managers should log into myPerformance to add expectations, competencies and goals for the current review period then meet with their employees to review and provide a copy of their evaluation for reference throughout the year.

Helpful hints:

  • Managers have unlimited access to update and edit content on evaluations in myPerformance until the employee self-evaluation step begins Jan. 1, 2025.
  • Be sure to save and submit anytime you update or make changes to an evaluation. You still have access to make changes after you save and submit.
  • Employees don’t have access to their 2024-25 myPerformance evaluation until the employee self-evaluation step which is why it’s important to review and provide a copy of their evaluation for reference throughout the year.
  • To find in-progress or past evaluations in myPerformance, check the small box “Show completed and expired tasks” then click “Search.”

For more information (including myPerformance training, quick reference guides, and other resources) go to the myPerformance webpage (wichita.edu/myPerformance).
