For their final projects, students enrolled in The Bible and the Ancient Near East will give public presentations of their comparative study of biblical texts in their ancient cultural contexts from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8 in RSC 257. Topics are wide-ranging — including comparing the biblical flood account with Mesopotamian and Greek flood stories, exploring the many functions of angels and seraphs in the Bible and their Assyrian and Ugaritic cultural backgrounds, methods of prophecy, purification rituals, and lamentation in their biblical and surrounding cultural settings. Attendees will get a glimpse into the ancient historical context of the Bible while giving the students a real-life experience of presenting to an interested audience.
