Volunteers requested for annual Point-In-Time Homeless Count

The United Way of the Plains is seeking community volunteers to help in the annual Point-In-Time Homeless Count Thursday, Jan. 27. Every year in January, Wichita and Sedgwick County nonprofits, government agencies and community volunteers come together for this event to count every person facing homelessness in Sedgwick County. This count captures everyone facing homelessness, whether in a shelter, in a car, or on the street.

The event provides an opportunity for Wichita State students to get involved in the community and participate in some important data collection.

During the event, community volunteers will pair with a service provider and venture into the community to interview people who are currently unhoused. The survey takes only a few minutes and is anonymous. The information collected will be used by the community to plan and provide housing and services for those who are in need.
